About Coco
Coco began as a joyful collaboration with my 100-year-old mother-in-law, creating a Christmas tree from her costume jewelry. That spark turned into a call to the community: “Let’s build something beautiful together.” Neighbors and friends responded with generosity, donating jewelry to create this jewel-encrusted, 24k gold–painted, angelic dog. With elegant wings, “diamonds,” and “pearls,” Coco is a Chanel-style sculpture that embodies love, community, and timeless sparkle.
Coco represents the guardian angels our pets become—and the kindness that lives in every corner of Carmel. David hopes this project touches hearts and stands as a vibrant reminder of how art, community, and love for animals can unite to make a lasting impact on us all.
About the Artist David O'Neil
Carmel-by-the-Sea artist David O’Neil creates whimsical bejeweled art dog sculptures using repurposed costume jewelry, much of it donated by friends, family, and neighbors with a percentage always benefiting honorable non-profits. Each sparkling, one-of-a-kind piece blends craftsmanship, culture, fashion, history, and community spirit — turning beloved canine statues into timeless treasures.
Known for his work as Professional Volunteer on the Boards of Carmel Womans Club, Pacific Repertory Theater, Carmel Residents Association, Producer of Carmel Fashion Week and as a tireless community advocate, David brings the same eye for elegance and dedication to preservation into his art, ensuring that every jeweled dog captures not just form, but spirit. His creations invite viewers into a world where style becomes legacy and joy is sculpted to last a lifetime.
