  • I have only a few hours to spend in Carmel, what shouldn’t I miss?

    You shouldn’t miss seeing our beach. Carmel has 60+ restaurants, 80+ art galleries and 100+ boutique style stores all in one square mile, but the real draw to Carmel is our natural beauty. You can stroll almost a mile on our white sand beach with gorgeous views of Pebble Beach and Point Lobos.

  • What is there to do in Carmel?

    Go check out our beautiful beaches, they are not to be missed and perhaps you’ll be inspired to have a picnic on the beach and do some whale watching or if you like to surf, Carmel beach is the locals favorite place to surf. On Scenic Drive you can walk above the beach and check out Robinson Jeffers Tor house and a home built by Frank Lloyd Wright. If you enjoy wine, we have 15 different tasting rooms that are part of our Wine Walk. If you’re a foodie, we have over 60 restaurants to choose from and if culture is your thing, we have over 80 art galleries, 5 performing arts venues a Center for Photographic art and the Carmel Art Association displaying local artists work. At the Visitor Center we can provide you with a map of Carmel that offers a self-guided historic walking tour of Carmel and another map that shows directions to the many Fairytale cottages. If you prefer guided tours there are 2 different guided walking tours, a food tour and an art gallery tour. Tired yet?

  • Where is the beach?

    Straight down at the end of Ocean Avenue. Free unlimited parking is located right in front of the beach.

  • Do you have a map of the fairytale cottages?

    Yes, there are 23 cottages on our map, most are private residences, but there are a few that are businesses that you can go inside.

  • Do you have a map of Carmel, Big Sur, California?

    Yes, to all three and they are all free.

  • Can I get to the 17 mile drive from downtown Carmel?

    Yes, go straight down Ocean Avenue and turn Right onto San Antonio (the last right turn you can make off of Ocean Avenue), follow the signs to Pebble Beach and you will enter through the Carmel gate into Pebble Beach.

  • How does the Wine Walk work?

    Our Wine Walk can be purchased at the Visitor Center for $100.00. The Visitor Center is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00-6:00, Sunday 11:00-5:00 and we never run out of Wine Walk passports. It may also be purchased on-line and mailed to you. For your $100.00 you will get 10 tasting cards, each card is good for a flight of wine, which is usually 3 to 4, 1 to 2 ounce pours, and the cards are good at any of the 14 participating wine tasting rooms that are all within walking distance of each other and they never expire.

  • Does Clint Eastwood live here and do you ever see him?

    Yes, Clint has a home in Carmel, but is often filming in southern California. He can sometimes be spotted walking on the streets here in Carmel, or at his restaurant, Mission Ranch.
