The EDD offers an optional Disability Insurance Elective Coverage (DIEC) program for employers and self-employed individuals who are not required to pay into State Disability Insurance (SDI) but want to be covered by Disability Insurance (DI) and Paid Family Leave (PFL). DIEC is funded through quarterly premiums and can protect you against partial loss of income when you are unable to work. DI provides benefits to eligible DIEC participants when they are unable to work and lose wages due to their own non-work-related illness, injury, pregnancy, or childbirth.PFL provides benefits to eligible DIEC participants when they need to take time off from work to care for a seriously ill child, parent, parent-in-law, grandparent, grandchild, sibling, spouse, or registered domestic partner or to bond with a new child entering the family through birth, adoption, or foster care placement.For more information about DIEC, visit DIEC Forms and Publications.

BARAK LAUB/ CARMELFUN: In response to this crisis, Barak created a website ( listing volunteer opportunities, resources for people who need help, and more as they develop. “I think this is a great place to aggregate the resources available for the community as well as an outlet for people to help others. If you know of businesses who are providing free services or who need volunteers please let me know. The more people who know about it and share information the greater an asset it can be.”

KAZU: Thank you KAZU for highlighting one of our local businesses, Stationaery, in your recent article/radio broadcast here. A great example of how our businesses are stretching their creativity to stay open and vital at this time.

MONTEREY COMMUNITY FOUNDATION & MONTEREY PENINSULA FOUNDATION:The Community Foundation for Monterey County and the MontereyPeninsula Foundation have created the COVID-19 Relief Fund. JOHN PLASTINI: Mr. Plastini is a property manager for several properties in town, including the Doud Arcade. This Monday John met with all of his tenants and explained how he was going to work WITH them to accommodate their financial needs during this time. Thank you John for understanding the crisis of small businesses at this time and for being willing to step in and act as a leader in our community.

RIO GRILL: The owner of Rio Grill, Tony Tollner, when forced to close, sent all the leftover food in his restaurant home with his employees. Every little bit helps at times like these, so Thank you Tony for your leadership.

CITY OF CARMEL: The City of Carmel is waiving all parking fees during this time and allowing restaurants tasteful signage in front of their shops for curbside pickup. Thank you to the City for recognizing this need and relaxing their restrictions during this time to help our small businesses.

COUNCILMAN JEFF BARON: Jeff is working with a group of residents to identify the top 100 most at risk Carmelites, so that neighbors can help neighbors during this time. Thank you Jeff Baron for this important work and your leadership.

CARMEL CHAMBER BUSINESS ROUNDTABLE COMMITTEE MEMBERS: Thank you to this dynamic group of leaders for meeting virtually Wednesday morning and discussing the status of business in the village at this time. This group worked diligently to contact our elected state legislature to make certain MONTEREY COUNTY was placed on the eligibility list for SBA Disaster Loan Assistance, AND IT WORKED!!! This committee, which normally meets once a month will be meeting virtually each week until we are through this trying time. We will keep you updated.

Our local Comcast representative, Danielle Price, has informed the Chamber that for $150 they will do a 0:10 tag on the end of their Shop Local Campaign & these can run over 40 networks on traditional TV & online!
