    SENIOR PLANNER

    The City is seeking a professional, experienced, and motivated Senior Planner to manage complex and advanced-level planning projects. The Senior Planner is a management position responsible for assisting the Community  Planning and Building Director with staff supervision.

    As the City’s Senior Planner, you will:

    Develop and make presentations to the City Council, Planning Commission, Historic Resources Board, and community groups.    
    Review commercial and residential development proposals, plans, and applications. 
    Confer with and advise architects, designers, builders, attorneys, contractors, engineers, and the general public regarding City development policies and standards.
    Interpret and apply pertinent Federal and State laws, local codes and regulations, including those governing general plans, specific plans, environmental quality, zoning, and land use. 
    Conduct planning studies in the community to gather data to evaluate and advance planning projects. Review, draft, update, and propose revisions to the    
    General Plan and City ordinances.
    Research General Plan policies, zoning, land use and development ordinances.
    Coordinate project reviews with   other departments and outside agencies.
    Represent the City at regional and government agency meetings.
    Attend and participate in professional groups and committees.
    Perform a variety of public relations and outreach work for planning activities.

    CANDIDATE PROFILE
    The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, tactful, detail-oriented with  strong customer service skills; able to communicate highly technical topics in a clear and concise manner, as well as be self-assured with the ability to exercise a high degree of common sense and sound judgment.
     
    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
    Minimum of five years of responsible professional urban planning experience with at least one year of supervisory experience. Education equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in urban planning,  environmental planning, or public administration. A Master’s Degree in a  related field and/or AICP certification is desirable.
